What is SEO, and why does it matter?

Search engine optimisation is the work of making your website the best answer to the questions your customers type into Google. It covers how your site is built, what’s written on it and how trusted it is by other websites.

It matters because most people never scroll past the first few results. Moving from page two to the top three can change the number of enquiries you get, without spending more on ads.

Good SEO takes a few months to show results, but those results keep building. I’ll always explain what I’m doing in plain language and report on the numbers that matter: traffic, rankings and enquiries.

Hi, I’m Kate

I fell into SEO by accident, trying to get my mum’s B&B onto the first page of Google. It worked, and suddenly every business on the street was knocking on my door.

I have a degree in information science from Stellenbosch University and spent seven years at a digital agency in Cape Town, leading SEO for clients in tourism, property, healthcare and e-commerce. In 2020 I moved to Knysna and started working independently.
